We held the rescheduled Babylon Twilight Spring Race this past Thursday, June 26 in some challenging conditions. Winds were ENE 15-18 kts at 6;00 but built to a steady 20 kts with gusts to 25 kts just before the start. Our RC- John Davis played it smart and picked the #9 mark for an upwind start and a course of #9, #6 to port & back to #9 for the finish. We had 6 boats There was plenty of starting line excitement given the conditions and one boat had to restart but everyone made it over, led by Kevin Padden & Team Rettsie.
Wind shifts & heavy gusts kept crews on their toes and reefing was key to keeping boats on their feet and moving upwind. After rounding the #6 upwind mark, it as a wing-on-wing race to the finish. Even in these conditions, the poles really helped the crews deal with the wind shifts.
First over the line was Rettsie, followed by Shadow, Kickin Back, Naughty Dog and Sovereign. The final adjusted results were actually very close, with only 47 secs between 1st & 2nd place and an amazing 5 secs between 2nd & 3rd place. See the final results below. The final scoresheet is also attached.
