Saturday’s race ended up being a great afternoon of sail racing.  After a week of rain and overcast, Saturday brought the sun and the fear of very light winds.  We got lucky with East/East South East winds in the 5-10 knot range averaging around 8 knots. This is was enough breeze to keep the 10 boats moving throughout the entire race under full jib and mainsail.

These conditions were favorable for the mix of crews that we saw on the water. Many boats had their wives crewing including Shadow, Aleboat and Pandemonium. Pandemonium also had his grand kids pulling lines and enjoying the Saturday race. Aleboat also had his 2 year old son crewing. It’s good to see everyone having such a good time racing, especially wives and kids, in the laid back pursuit style race.

The racing was still competitive with Merry Ann taking line honors and Full Circle on their stern coming in second.  Shadow and Pandemonium battled it out for third and fourth place with no shortage of excitement trying to beat each other to the finish mark on the long broad reach.

Southern Accent finished about a quarter mile ahead of Aleboat, Aleboat about a quarter mile ahead of Amblin, Amblin about a quarter mile ahead of Bleu Moon.  Blue traveler wrapped the race up. Thanks for coming out to make this race a decent turn out after a last’s minute scramble to organize the race.  Lets all plan to race another pursuit style race to Atlantique for the Discoverers Race on Saturday Oct 6. Bring your best racing crew or bring your family for another great SBCC regatta either way you will have a good time.
