Spring Race to Atlantique- May 16th Final Report

It was a perfect day for our first race of the 2026 season. We had clear skies and 12-15 kt SW winds. Eric Winberry was RC and by the 12:00 noon start we had 9 boats at the starting line. Eight boats raced this year (a race record).  The wind was a bit shifty as the fleet settled in and enjoyed a tight reach down West Channel. We all made the upwind mark at Crazy Charlie in one tack and rounded for the run to buoy #8. The fleet tightened up on this fast downwind leg with some exciting boat-for-boat racing. By the third & final leg Jewel was out in front (again!), Moonrise & Pandemonium battled closely for 2nd place and Shadow fought hard to get past Banshee. However position changes were not to be in such perfect wind conditions. It was an exciting drag race to the finish.

Final Race Results:

1st place: Jewel, L. Becker

2nd place: Moonrise, R. Gutmann

3rd place: Pandemonium, G. Sebouhian

4th: Banshee, C. DeMarco

5th: Shadow, C. Margeson

6th: Snoopy, D. DeRuvo

7th: Beaumaris, D. Burns

8th: Sovereign, E. Picken

Congratulations to the winners this year. We had a great showing with a record 8 boats racing in stellar conditions. Snoopy headed home after the race but all the other racers stopped in for the after-race awards party at Atlantique. We had a large crowd which included some of the RV cruisers. The hero sandwich and beers quickly disappeared as we all enjoyed the sunny weather and toasted the winners. The awards presentation was given by Regatta Captain Charlie Margeson and our Commodore Stephanie Pizer took the trophy pictures. My thanks to Eric for RC duties and bringing the Hero sandwich & beers.

Four of the racers stayed overnight for the RV hosted by Duncan & Barbara Burns (Banshee, Shadow, Beaumaris & Sovereign). A destination race is always so enjoyable!

See you on the Bay,

Charlie Margeson
